AMC 20 Crush Sleeve

The AMC 20 crush sleeve (also known as a collapsible spacer or pinion preload sleeve) is a critical component for setting proper pinion bearing preload during differential regears, rebuilds, or pinion seal/yoke replacements on the AMC Model 20 axle. This one-time-use part compresses under torque from the pinion nut to achieve consistent preload, ensuring accurate gear mesh, reduced noise, and long-term durability.

Common in classic Jeep CJ-5, CJ-7, Scrambler, Wagoneer, and other AMC-equipped vehicles (typically 1970s-1980s models), the crush sleeve must be replaced whenever the pinion nut is removed or the setup is disturbed.
